At one point in my life I would have been afraid to drive this car because I thought people would see it as a "girl's car". I guess I either am more girly or more secure now. A cheap summer ride under 5k in good shape and I love VW. Reminds me of my grandfather with his VW Thing.
Growing up, my family had a hardtop VW Rabbit similar to this. The thing was diesel (my parents way to get around the gas crisis), got approximately 60 miles to the gallon, and had the get-up-and-go of a lame turtle. I still smile when I picture my 6'5" dad getting out of the thing.
